Description:
The purpose of launching this programme is basically to train the graduate teachers currently employed in the Secondary Schools without professional training. This is intended to improve their performance and thereby improve education in this country especially in
Mathematics and Sciences.

The Postgraduate Diploma course is a two year course made up of four semesters of tuition and a supervised Teaching Practice lasting at least one full school term.

The Teaching Practice will be taken after the examination of the second year. Teaching Practice will be done on two teaching subjects.
In the first year, students will take ten compulsory course units and in the second year students will take eight compulsory course units and three electives with two taken from the subject methods as
follows:
a. Take all the core courses in each of the following areas of
education:
Educational Foundations
Educational Psychology
Educational Planning and Administration
Curriculum Development
Educational Communication and Technology
Introduction to Research
b. Take at least one elective from the following courses:
Teacher Education
Principles of Adult Education
Introduction to Distance Education
Introduction to Special Education
c. Take two courses in subject methods to enable students to teach those subjects in the Secondary School Curriculum.

Entrance qualifications: The minimum qualifications for this course shall be a first degree in at least two teaching subjects, or its equivalent, obtained from a recognised University with a minimum of two years teaching experience.

Special consideration may be given to candidates with double subjects such as Home Science, Music and Fine Art.

Candidates with double subjects will be required to identify a second teaching subject and take special methods in their second year.

Administrative information:
On successful completion of this 2 year programme, students will be awarded the Postgraduate Diploma in Education.
